As this spontaneous decision to do something has lasted for longer than a week, i'm now doing dates on the title as well. Who knows in the future it might even be organised enough to have a proper title.
Got a lot of things to say today. Johnny Marr, i interviewed him earlier. He was a very cool guy with a lot of interesting things to say and a load of stories. He did a very inspirational speech sort of thing which was great. Afterwards he signed my copy of The Queen Is Dead and said i'd asked good questions, which in an interview situation i think is the best possible compliment. Or he was just flattering me.
Aside from Johnny Marr, i found out today i have an exam tomorrow, which is great. But the housing problem for next year seems to be getting sorted which is excellent.
My main gripe of the day is facebook groups, a common source of my annoyance. There are the obviously annoying ones, the lol jk craze that's been on few days, but the one that has annoyed me today is "if the england flag offends you.. ill be happy to help you pack?". It has annoyed me for the following reasons. Grammar firstly, the irony of the group that celebrates England and the flag and everything English, and the name isn't capitalised is annoying. As is the lack of apostrophe in i'll. Then on the grou itself in the info box there is this gem;
"we should be able to put our flags and foot ball shirts on were ever we like not be told we cant use them as we are in england..
this is not a rasist group
take pride in england."
I'm starting to think that the person who wrote this is only aware of the ellipses and no other form of punctuation.
The group itself is in reaction to two stories in the news that have broken today. One is the metropolitan police advising pubs in South London to not let people wearing England shirts into pubs to watch the world cup, as they seem to incite violence. This is of course ridiculous, a hooligan is a hooligan regardless of what shirt he's wearing. I have no issue with protesting, or joining a facebook group which i'm fairly sure is the modern way of protest, about this matter, except the group in question is a huge hyperbole, "I Am Against The Ban On England Shirts During The World Cup." Well punctuated this time, but it isn't a ban.
Ok, the other story is from Nottingham and it say's how the council have cut down flags which were hung on street lamps. It is illegal, for some reason probably road safety, to hang things from street lamps. As far as i'm concerned no one is attacking the English way of life, unless you mean by breaking laws and going against the police's advice. But who can say?
As for being allowed to hang a flag wherever you like, this is simpy unreasonable surely. No issue with flags being hung on your own house, that's fine. But anywhere you like? No. There are places you can't hang a flag, on a trainline for example, or property you don't own and do not have the owner's permission to hang a flag.
And finally the big one "this is not a rasist group," probably in the same way the BNP claims it's not a racist group. There's another line here about the situation being reversed and a flag is put up illegally but not an England flag, but i can't quite word it correctly .
That's about all from me for now, maybe theses facebook groups shouldn't be taken so seriously...
